Say, YES to vegetable glycerin!

I was becoming a little doubtful of my vegetable glycerin mix. I tried to put 1 part vegetable glycerin, 3 parts water. When I spritz my hair it felt like it was just water on my hair. It didnt give me that instant softness that I know glycerin does. I was dissapointed that I did not get the same softening effects as I did from my s-curl. When I got home from school I added in another ounce or so of the vegetable glycerin. I’m glad I did! That worked perfectly.

My measurements are:

2 parts VG 2 parts Water.

I love me some vegetable glycerin!

Don’t Tease My Fro!

This shirt is SO CUTE!

Naturals would be so fierce rockin’ this tee from MetroPark. It’s $29.00. I want one, but I’ll likely buy it and rock it once I’m 100% natural in 24 months. lol. I just would feel weird rockin’ it right now, because I’m over 90% relaxed.

It can be dressed to be chic and grown with a pair of skinny jeans and heels.

I love flat twist outs!

Something came over me and I decided to do a flat twist out. I am glad I did! I really enjoy the results. I think I like it better than braid outs. It is def a style I will use a lot during my transition. It seems to be less manipulation than doing braids for me personally.

Products I used:

  • S-curl for moisture
  • Castor Oil to seal

The flat twists (not done well, will do neater next time):

The Results:

Overall I was pretty happy with the style, needed to moisturize better next time!!

I’m REALLY experimenting with what is best for these styles. I want to use something like gel to give better hold, I think today I will try flat twist outs again using the smooth as silk gel. I will use my  *NEW* vegetable glycerin mix to keep my hair damp while twisting. Then oil, then gel? Or maybe I should give shea butter a try again? lol IDK! We will see. Maybe I’ll do diff things to each twist to see which works best! lol Seriously, whatever I do I will document!

Right now (11:22AM) I have been sleeping in my DC (AOHSR mixed w/honey and castor/jojoba) My ends were so freakin dry after the twist out. So yeahhhh, I will be trying to battle that!

My Hair Inspirations

Everybody should have goals and aspirations. Sometimes you have to look to what you want and remember how grand it will be to achieve those things, WHATEVER they may be!

In this case, having my natural hair down my back will be a dream come true so I have my eye on the prize.

Here are some beautiful inspirations to keep me going.

I will continually add inspirations when I see them to keep me going!

My OWN natural hair:

Other inspirations are:

  • RusticBeauty from YouTube
  • longhairdontcare2011 from YouTube

I can’t think of the other users off the top of my head! But there are so many more from LongHairCareForum  and fotki that I’ll dedicate a shout out too once I get their names.

Why am I Transitioning?

I didn’t really transition before, but this time I will. I’m going to do a long transition of 24 months. I’m totally excited!

This will teach me patience, and also allow me to deal with styling my 2 different textures with buns for the rest of the transition until I’m ready to chop.

Why am I transitioning AGAIN? Didn’t I just relax (feb 17)

So many reasons. I feel like being natural IS me. That curly puff, is me. I don’t have to BABY my natural hair. My hair is fine now and that sucks. I’m not used to having fine hair. It’s really hard to go from coarse thick strands, to fine delicate strands.  I think relaxed hair is BEAUTIFUL, and for those that have mastered it, I really do admire you.

God made me some beautiful coils to sprout out of my head. I love my hair texture, it just takes a lot of patience and time sometimes. I just got caught up in the idea of simplifying my life. I didn’t give the thought of losing my natural hair real time to sit and marinate. I just went ahead and relaxed.

Why am I doing a long term transition?

Although I loved my twa, I just have grown accustom to having at least medium length hair. I also want to make myself do this long transition to show discipline and dedication (like I’ve mentioned before). I want to have 24 months worth of growth so I will be able to put my hair in a bun right after my BC.

Can’t believe I relaxed again.

I relaxed my hair on Feb 17th. It was one of those INSTANT gratification moments I go through. (I’m working on them) But yes, the creamy crack got me. It seemed som much easier, and ESSENTIALLY it is, but not for a person like me. I NEVER really used protein. And if I did, it was not because my hair absolutely NEEDED it. Now I’m constantly trying to figure out how the hell to deal with this new FINE stranded hair. My natural hair is SO coarse and strong that it can withstand ANYTHING when it’s wet. However, my relaxed hair can’t stand a comb while wet. I’ve done the protein, and refuse to do the 2 step! It’s only been about 2 weeks and I already miss MY hair. I told my coworker, this relaxed hair is not MY hair. The hair that I grow is coily, thick, crazy, fluffy and fun. I’m so excited to transition and be natural again. Like she said, if I get the ITCH to go straight I can FIGURE it out for a TEMPORARY fix. But the relaxer is not all it’s cracked up to be FOR ME. It’s confusing. I have YET to figure out all the protein and moisture balance things. I can honestly say that the breakage is not making me worried AS much anymore because I’ll be cutting it off ANYWAYS. Plus it’s not enough to really matter. These pictures are reminders to what my goal is:

Around February 2010

What I am doing to my hair tonight:

I’ve decided to try a DC on DRY hair. I slathered AO HSR (mixed with honey and castor oil) all over my strands. Especially working on my ends. I then applied some Marula oil and castor oil to my ends. I was going to do the treatment with heat, but I’ve decided to sleep with it on over night. I hope it leaves me with a super moist treat! I believe it will!!

DC on Dry Hair?

I tried something different via suggestion of a member of LHCF.

What I am doing to my hair tonight:

In the morning:

One word: MOISTURE! My hair just loves these product. I don’t know how I’d deal w/o my AOHSR unless I found something COMPARABLE at a lower price.

If you have not tried AOHSR, you should! And even more so with the added ingredients:

  • Honey
  • Castor Oil
  • Jojoba Oil

You’re hair will likely thank you and beg for more.  ha

My opinion of DCing on DRY hair:

I feel like my hair was able to absorb more of the conditioner. I always think of the sponge theory.

If a sponge is void of liquids, it is able to absorb the maximum mount of liquid once applied. However, if you take a sponge, add liquid to it, then apply MORE liquid to it, it won’t be able to absorb that much extra liquid in the portions that are filed already. The once empty spaces are now filled.

I think of this the same way for hair.  If our hair is wet while we apply the conditioner, it will only be able to absorb  a certain  amount of the conditioner due to the strands being filled with the water. It will not be able to absorb as much as the conditioner versus on dry hair. If the hair is dry, when you apply the conditioner it will have more “space” to fill and therefore be able to do it’s job at moisturizing.

JUST MY THOUGHT, NOT SAYING I’M RIGHT. =)

What do you think?

Do you DC on dry hair?
